  Broken Social Scene performing in England in 2006 The Siren Music Festival (a.k.a. Sirenfest) is an annual summertime outdoors concert held in Brooklyn's Coney Island. It is run by the free arts/politics/current-events newspaper the Village Voice, and is completely free-of-charge.
This free, all day, all ages music festival will feature international, national and local bands and DJs performing on two outdoor stages in historic Coney Island. Now in its 8th year, the Village Voice Siren Music Festival™ has solidified its status as a leading New York City outdoor music festival, drawing over 100,000 music fans by showcasing indie rock veterans and emerging artists.

The Village Voice (New York, NY), the nation’s largest alternative weekly newspaper announced the initial line-up on May 7, 2008 for the 8th Annual Village Voice SIREN MUSIC FESTIVAL™ at Coney Island on Saturday, July 19, 2008 from 12:00 noon - 9:00 p.m. Scheduled performers include STEPHEN MALKMUS AND THE JICKS, BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE, THE HELIO SEQUENCE, BEACH HOUSE, TIMES NEW VIKING, JAGUAR LOVE, THE DODOS, ANNUALS, FILM SCHOOL, PARTS & LABOR, DRAGONS OF ZYNTH, THESE ARE POWERS, DJs and more to be announced.

Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks is a rock band consisting of Stephen Malkmus, Janet Weiss, Mike Clark, and Joanna Bolme. Malkmus was the main singer and songwriter behind the influential 1990s indie rock band Pavement.

Broken Social Scene (see photo) is a Juno Award winning Canadian indie rock supergroup, a musical collective currently including nineteen members, formed in 1999 in Toronto, Ontario. All of its members, except for founders Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning and drummer Justin Peroff, currently play in various other groups and solo projects, mainly based around the city of Toronto. The group's sound could be considered a combination of all of its members' respective musical projects, and is usually identified as baroque pop.
